How the Upper Cervical Spine Affects Anxiety
Anxiety is a complex condition, the causes of which are often linked to a combination of environmental conditions and genetic predispositions. An oft-neglected factor, misalignment in the upper cervical spine is another potential cause for anxiety disorders.
Long-term misalignment in the upper back and neck can lead to inflammation in the central nervous system (CNS). Left untreated, this inflammation can compromise the regular function of the CNS, leading to the irregular release of neurotransmitters, such as norepinephrine, serotonin, dopamine, that would otherwise moderate or quell the symptoms of an anxiety disorder.
How Our Anxiety Treatment Works
Unfortunately, conventional physicians tend to have a myopic focus on treating the symptoms of panic and tension. While symptom management is an important part of our anxiety treatment, our overarching goal is to identify and remedy the underlying cause of anxiety disorders.
The first step we take when treating chronic or acute anxiety is to identify whether there is a misalignment in the upper cervical spine. If a misalignment is found, our goal is to correct the vertebral abnormality, thereby allowing the body’s natural healing processes to alleviate or even eliminate symptoms of anxiety.
If our objective tests detect a misalignment in the upper cervical spine, we will use a Cone Beam CT (CBCT) scan to ascertain the precise location, angle, and direction of the misaligned vertebra.
Armed with this information, we can begin the process of correcting the misalignment. Over the course of one or more sessions, we will use gentle, non-invasive correction techniques to restore your neck and upper spine to their natural positions.
While we’re based in Las Vegas, we offer anxiety treatment for patients across Clark County and some neighboring states, including Utah, Arizona, and California.
