Natural High Blood Pressure Treatment

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, affects one in three adults across the U.S. While high blood pressure and its associated symptoms can be managed with medication, the required drugs come with a wide range of undesirable side effects.

Upper cervical chiropractic care is an alternative treatment option for people suffering from high blood pressure. Rather than mindlessly medicating away the symptoms, we use specialized, gentle chiropractic alteration to correct any spinal misalignments that may be causing issues with the central nervous system (CNS).

What is Blood Pressure?

Blood pressure refers to the pressure of the blood on the walls of the blood vessels as blood is pumped around the body. Blood pressure is recorded as two numbers, with the largest number (systolic pressure) indicating the pressure in the arteries as blood is pumped by the heart, while the smaller number indicates the pressure of the blood between heart beats.

Blood Pressure Symptoms

Depending on whether your blood pressure is low or high, you may experience a wide range of different symptoms. Some symptoms of high blood pressure include:

  • Headaches
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizzy spells
  • Blood in urine
  • Visual changes

Low blood pressure presents with many of the same symptoms as high blood pressure, but it can also include:

  • Dehydration or unusual thirst
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Cold, clammy skin
  • Blurred vision
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Fainting

How the Upper Cervical Spine Affects Blood Pressure

The CNS controls and regulates blood pressure throughout the entire body. Our blood is carried through arteries all over the body, with these arteries contracting and expanding depending on our daily activities and ambient temperature requirements.

The brain stem, located along the upper cervical spine at the base of the skull, controls arteriole wall movement through the vasomotor nucleus. If the upper cervical spine has been compromised, disrupted function in the brain stem and vasomotor nucleus can cause the arteriole wall to constrict, triggering a sharp uptick in blood pressure.

How Our Blood Pressure Treatment Works

Upper cervical care is a valuable alternative to traditional treatments for high blood pressure. While medication may help to mask the symptoms of hypertension, we believe it is always better to treat the cause.

To begin blood pressure treatment, our doctor will conduct a physical examination and use Cone Beam CT (CBCT) scans to identify the location and angle of the misalignment in the upper cervical spine. We then study this information to formulate a personalized program of gentle spinal corrections — don’t worry, we are trained not to pull, twist, or crack your spine.

After we correct the misalignment in the upper cervical spine, your body will be free to begin healing. Once pressure has been removed from the vasomotor nucleus, the arteriole walls will dilate and your blood pressure should return to its prior baseline.

We provide treatment for blood pressure issues in Las Vegas and Clark County. We are also able to service patients in some neighboring states, including Utah, Arizona, and California.
